Planning Travel Based on Your Zodiac Sign

Have you ever felt the pull of the universe when making decisions? Checked your horoscope for daily guidance? Or thought, “Hey, that’s me” when reading up on your birth sign? You’re not alone. The trials of 2020 had many of us looking for some kind of cosmic boost to get through. And now that the worst of the pandemic seems to be behind us, planning travel based on your Zodiac sign might be a good way to indulge your spiritual side.

If you’re looking to make a San Diego getaway that will indulge your inner Aquarius or secret Saggitarius, then read on. We’ve got tips for every sign.

Aries ♈︎ (March 21 – April 29)

Aries folks tend to be bold. Fearless. Unafraid of challenge. So any Aries should consider outdoor adventures like mountain biking, rock climbing, or kayaking the sandstone caves at La Jolla. If you’re one of those Rams who’s an adrenaline junkie, you may even gravitate toward more extreme sports. It’s a good thing San Diego can offer you great activities like surfing, skydiving, and bungee jumping. Need a place to start? Taurus ♉︎ (April 20 – May 20)

Taureans tend to have a loving, peaceful nature. They gravitate toward serenity and calming environments. So the typical Bull might be interested in taking a hiking or canoeing trip, or maybe even a cooking class. Since Taureans also appreciate creature comforts, heading to an indulgent foodie-focused restaurant destination or a day spa will also dovetail perfectly with their sensibilities. Take a look at “The Best San Diego Hikes for Non-Hikers” from our colleagues at Humphreys Half Moon Inn, or San Diego Magazine’s article “11 Immersive Food Experiences in San Diego” if you’d like some suggestions.

Gemini ♊︎ (May 21 – June 20)

Gemini is represented by the twins. That’s due to the fact that it would take two of them to have all the fun they’d like to. Geminis enjoy road trips, pub hopping, and the exciting spontaneity of discovering new adventures. These folks could find a way to have fun in a paper bag. So planning NOT to plan may be the best way to go! Since Geminis tend to thrive on the unexpected, consider heading to Balboa Park and touring the museums. Or make your way to Belmont Park and hit the rides and midway. Maybe try Pacific Beach, with its friendly vibe and excellent bar scene. Hey, if you’re feeling adventurous and you packed a passport, why not take a day trip to Tijuana? The world’s your oyster, Gemini.

Cancer ♋︎ (June 21 – July 22)

Cancer is a water sign, so these folks will feel right at home given San Diego’s miles of beaches and rich maritime history. The typical Crab might enjoy spending a day or three at the beach, just basking in the sun and listening to the waves lap the sand. Alternatively booking a fishing charter, a sunset pleasure cruise, or whale-watching excursion might be just what the doctor ordered. Take a look at Flagship Cruise’s schedule for cocktail excursions, or Hornblower’s dinner and movie cruises, then get out and enjoy the water. Cancers might even enjoy heading to the USS Midway Museum.

Leo ♌︎ (July 23 – August 22)

Lion signs are usually characterized by an extremely social and outgoing nature. A Leo is always comfortable being the center of attention, so perhaps karaoke night or hitting the stage at an open-mic stand-up show might intrigue them. On the social side, a friends’ getaway with the squad would be great for a Leo. Our recent “Best San Diego Neighborhood Guide For Your Friend Group Getaway” could be a good resource for planning one. Finally, since Leos also have a pronounced appreciation for the finer things in life, they might want to take a look at this guide to San Diego’s most refined luxury experiences

Virgo ♍︎ (August 23rdSept 22)

Virgos have a tendency to be very grounded, hence their symbol — the goddess of the harvest. A Virgo’s preferred travel style revolves around being experience-oriented. Since Virgos are meticulous planners, they’re also traditionally the best at budgeting and plotting out a travel itinerary. They thrive with structured schedules, so their propensity is to research spots ahead of time. Need some help deciding what to do? We suggest beginning your day with waterfront yoga with us at The Dana, then heading to SeaWorld or the San Diego Zoo to commune with some wildlife before making a dinner reservation at one of San Diego’s fantastic restaurants.

Libra ♎︎ (September 23 – October 22)

Libras are symbolized by the scales for a good reason. A Libra will typically seek out balance and harmony in life, so their tendency is to seek out activities that help them bring a sense of centering to their heart, mind, body, and soul. As such, most Libras appreciate being pampered and gravitate toward activities that bring about a state of calm. So booking a spa day and enjoying a rejuvenating massage, skin treatment, or other relaxing procedure can certainly fuel the Libra’s desire for comfort. Ending the evening with some champagne, chocolate, and a favorite classic film will be the perfect coda.

Scorpio ♏︎ (October 23 – November 21)

San Diego is the ideal destination for fun-seeking Scorpios. These signs tend to be night owls (especially during the summer), so a Scorpio would most likely enjoy heading out to one of the area’s upbeat waterfront communities, such as Ocean Beach or Pacific Beach. In addition to having fantastically relaxing and walkable beaches, these neighborhoods also have very active bar, club, and restaurant scenes. And since Scorpios can have a secretive streak, we’ll even recommend venturing out in search of the quirky “undercover” watering holes in “America’s Finest City.” Our guide to San Diego’s hidden speakeasies will put you on the right path.

Sagittarius ♐︎ (November 22 – December 23)

Curiosity often defines those born under the sign of the Archer. Since most Saggitarians are on a never-ending quest for knowledge, we can enthusiastically recommend checking out Balboa Park and its myriad of museums (Including the San Diego Natural History Museum, San Diego Air & Space Museum, Fleet Science Center, and San Diego Museum of Art). Take a look at our Guide to Balboa Park Museums to get a sense of all of the wonder that’s in store for you. Additionally, since a Saggitarian’s favorite place is “just around the next corner,” you’re spoiled for choice here. You just can’t go wrong exploring our neighborhoods, national parks, and attractions. Why not go backpacking, whale-watching, geocaching, or hiking to a hot spring? And if you’re feeling particularly adventurous, then you may even opt for a quick day trip to a nearby community. Our blog, “San Diego Day Trips to Enjoy This Summer” should give you some good ideas on where to start.

Capricorn ♑︎ (December 22 – January 19)

Capricorns often have a well-earned reputation for being hardworking and career-oriented. So even when they’re relaxing and blowing off steam, they still want to experience a sense of achievement — meaning a little light competition may be in order. Ever been axe-throwing? We think you might like it. Alternatively, you may want to head to Belmont Park for a little skee-ball, arcade action, and skill games. What better way to have a good time than by posting a high score on the pinball machine, then leaving with arms full of prizes won at the fair? Capricorns also have the sort of focus necessary to excel at an escape room. Good thing San Diego has many of these challenging attractions. Get started here.

Aquarius ♒︎ (January 20 – February 18)

The Aquarian travel style prioritizes unstructured, off-the-beaten-path experiences. Water Bearers love checking out natural wonders (like parks, beaches, and hiking), non-rigid itineraries (such as picking a direction, getting lost, and seeing what’s out there), and lots of exciting adventure (parasailing, kayaking, boating, etc.). Their thirst for excitement is usually balanced with plenty of downtime, though, so a good old-fashioned drive-in movie is always an excellent choice. San Diego also offers unique escapades like snorkeling and scuba diving, exploring sea caves, yoga retreats, and much more certain to intrigue Aquarians.

Pisces ♓︎ (February 19th – March 20)

Gentle Pisces tend to be creative, compassionate, spiritual souls. While not expressly antisocial, Pisces nonetheless prioritize their alone time and appreciate opportunities for relaxing with music, a good book, or a favorite movie. Music and arts festivals (such as Wonderfront, KAABOO, and the Adams Avenue Street Fair) will offer them much to love, as will mind/body/soul-balancing activities like massages, meditation, and yoga. We also have yet to meet a Pisces that doesn’t love heading to a local bookstore and leaving with a bag brimming with summer reading material. We recommend checking out Warwick’s, Run For Cover, and Mysterious Galaxy.
