The Ultimate Guide to Summer in San Diego

August in San Diego is when the summer really starts to heat up. There are still plenty of beach days left, and with the end of the season quickly approaching, we’re highlighting some of our favorite ways to soak up the summer in San Diego. While iconic theme parks are open year-round, there are special events and attractions only available during the summer. Read on for our favorite summer activities at Sea World, the San Diego Zoo, and even in our own backyard at The Dana.

Experience a New Side of Sea World

SeaWorld is magical any time of year, but the park really comes to life in the summer. Experience the park after dark during the Electric Ocean Festival. Bathed in neon light, the nighttime spectacle features glowing sea creatures, live music, and a fireworks display—all making this a celebration worth staying up for.

Walkabout at the San Diego Zoo

Don’t miss the recently opened “Walkabout Australia” exhibit at Safari Park, a unique chance to walk among the exotic wildlife of Australia through designated trails and paths. And, if you were into the Electric Ocean Festival at SeaWorld, the San Diego Zoo also offers nighttime activities. During the summer months only, the zoo features live music and rare animal interactions—now through September 13.

Enjoy the Best of San Diego at The Dana

There’s plenty to see and do in our own backyard. Soak up the summer sun while enjoying hula hoop contests, Margarita Mondays, and free yoga classes make The Dana, the summer destination in San Diego. Check out the schedule of events below:
