What’s New in San Diego for 2023

There’s always something new and exciting happening in San Diego! Even though “America’s Finest City” attracts countless visitors thanks to our perfect weather, beautiful beaches and endless opportunities for entertainment, our dining scene and local attractions are ever-evolving.. To that end, 2023 is slated to bring a large number of completely fresh experiences to our oceanside paradise. Looking for what’s new in San Diego for 2023? Here are some of the biggest new openings we’re looking forward to. What will you check out during your 2023 visit?

San Diego may be well-known as a warm, sunny paradise, but 2023 will be bringing a breath of fresh, cool air to SeaWorld’s thrill ride lineup. The brand-new Arctic Rescue Coaster is an experience unlike any other ride in the park’s history. Guests will hop astride a lightning-fast snowmobile-style seat, strap in, and white-knuckle their way through some of the most pulse-pounding twists and turns the park has ever seen on the West Coast’s longest and fastest straddle coaster.

Tajima Ramen (2 miles)

When San Diegans want Ramen, they head to Tajima. This immensely popular soup spot was featured on our “Best Ramen in San Diego” post, and for good reason — it’s as authentic as it is reliably delicious. After opening several locations in and around the city the last few years, Tajima is débuting a new spot just across the bay from The Dana in Crown Point — inside the space previously occupied by local breakfast spot The Menu.

Mission + Garnet (2.7 miles)

This soon-to-open multi-concept/24-hour space in Pacific Beach has been one of the most anticipated new openings in the city since having first been announced nearly a year ago. The idea (as proposed by owner Scott Slater — founder of area burger outpost Slater’s 50/50) is simple: an upscale food-court style space housing several different styles of restaurants. Although details of exactly which types of fare will be available are still in development, it’s certain to be brimming with just as much variety as it is nostalgia.

Malibu Farm (7.2 miles)

Seaport Village will welcome San Diego’s first location of renowned farm-to-table restaurant Malibu Farm in 2023. Malibu Farm was famously begun by chef Helene Henderson as a backyard grab-and-go serving only local and organic fare. It’s proven immensely popular in its namesake beachfront town, and hasn’t strayed from its roots in the years since. The San Diego stop is slotted for summer ‘23, and will operate at the site of the former Harbor House.

The Gaslamplighter (7.4 miles)

Karaoke is making a big post-pandemic comeback, as would-be stars from every walk of life once again take up the mic all over town. The team behind the perennial Mission Hills karaoke favorite The Lamplighter is opening a second location in the Gaslamp Quarter in 2023. Appropriately named The Gaslamplighter, the new hotspot aims to elevate karaoke night with an elegant, art-deco cocktail lounge atmosphere. So drink up and sing out!

MINILAND at LEGOLand California (33.6 miles)

LEGOLand California is a must-stop family destination. Thrill rides, live shows, and larger-than-life displays of brick-based art have delighted families here for more than two decades. In 2023, LEGOLand will be thinking big — by getting small. LEGO’s master model builders are hard at work creating scale-model versions of prominent San Diego landmarks for the brand-new MINILAND USA area, scheduled to début in the spring.

Hart House (34.5 miles)

Hart House is perhaps one of the most anticipated openings coming in the new year. Actor and comedian-turned restaurateur Kevin Hart will be bringing the first location of his vegan eatery Hart House to San Diego in 2023. Hart House offers classic fast food-style fare like burgers, crispy nuggets, hot fries and shakes — all 100% meatless, and 100% delicious. Hart House has been a must-stop just up the road in Los Angeles for some time, so San Diego’s meat-free eaters have been looking forward to this ribbon-cut.
