St. Patrick's Day 2017 is on March 17--a Friday this year, meaning the holiday is a great excuse to find the Irish inside you and have a weekend of fun. St. Patrick's Day events in San Diego have something for everyone, whether you're a fitness fanatic, a craft beer aficionado, or you just love a parade. Here are some of the best events around town:
In town early? The St. Patrick's Day Half Marathon is on March 5, and there's a 5K option if you prefer shorter distances. The race is followed by a festival with food and entertainment. Join the Tribes and Clans competition to tackle an obstacle course in addition to your run. You also get entry to the EC Craft Beer invitational, with unlimited tastings.
You can also start celebrating early at the St. Patrick's Day Parade and Irish Festival on Saturday, March 11. The parade marches along 5th Avenue, and the fun continues over on 6th Avenue, with a Kids Zone, Celtic Village, and beer garden. There's Irish food, Irish dance, and plenty of Guinness.
On Friday night March 17, head to the historic Gaslamp District for the San Diego Shamrock block party. Starting at 6pm, there'll be three stages of entertainment, and drinks including Irish whisky and green beer. Extend your fun in the Gaslamp with the Irish 4 a Day pass that gets you in to 25 parties in the Gaslamp on Friday and Saturday nights where you can party 'til the wee hours. The Gaslamp is also the setting for the St. Patrick's Day Pub Crawl Friday and Saturday.
The Dana is just a few miles from the Gaslamp, making it a great choice for your stay. You can head downtown to enjoy the festivities, and then retreat to our location on the water at Mission Bay and head to the nearby beach to cap your weekend with a quiet day in the sun.
