You can challenge San Diego's waters in many ways: surfing, kayaking, boating, fishing... Teams of rowers come here at the beginning of April to take on the San Diego Crew Classic April 1 & 2. Rowers in all classes will see how fast they can stroke on the waters of Mission Bay, right near The Dana. There'll be top university teams represented, along with high school and master's competitors.
Visitors can watch more than 4000 athletes competing in over 100 races. Bring binoculars or watch the events on the Jumbotron monitor. It's a great way to enjoy Crown Point Park. Plus you can head to Lane Zero Beer Garden to enjoy local craft beer while watching the action, or enjoy Brunch by the Bay before the events on Sunday.
This is one of the premier regattas in the US, and it's no wonder. San Diego rowing dates back more than 100 years. Visiting rowers can connect with the Mission Bay Rowing Association to make rowing a part of their visit to San Diego.
Even if you aren't a rower, enjoying the San Diego water on Mission Bay is easy at The Dana. Besides pools and spas, our amenities include on-site water sports rentals. Rent a boat to explore or tow tubes and water skis, rent a jet ski to speed around the bay, or try a non-motorized outing on the water: challenge yourself with stand up paddling and kayaking, or pedal an aqua cycle or pedal boat.
After your day's fun on the water, enjoy dining with views of the bay followed by a moonlit stroll through the marina. No matter how you experience it, San Diego's water will be a highlight of your visit.
