The water is a big part of San Diego's culture. So it's no surprise water-based festivities are a big part of our holiday traditions. We don't just string holiday lights on houses; we decorate boats and sail them around the bay, too.
One our favorite holiday traditions takes place right here on Mission Bay: the annual Mission Bay Christmas Boat Parade of Lights. If you love the way light sparkles on the water, you don't want to miss this event: dozens of illuminated boats sail around the bay. This year's event takes place on December 10 from 6pm to 9pm.
The parade can be viewed from the patio or balcony of one of our bay view guest rooms or suites, or cozy up on a blanket on the Sunset Lawn.
Before the Boat Parade
That means you've got plenty of time to enjoy some of San Diego's other holiday traditions during the daytime. There are special holiday shows at SeaWorld and Legoland, and the San Diego Zoo is decorated with Jungle Bells.
Take in a matinee performance of How the Grinch Stole Christmas or The Nutcracker. Old Town San Diego, the historic heart of town, will be decorated for an old-fashioned Christmas right out of the 1800s. It's a great destination for holiday shopping, too. Of course, there's more holiday shopping in boutiques and malls throughout San Diego.
After the Boat Parade
Head back into The Dana on Mission Bay after the Mission Bay Christmas Boat Parade of Lights. Enjoy dinner at the Firefly Restaurant with an acoustic music performance. It's a great way to relax after enjoying a day of San Diego highlights.
