Keep your eyes on the sky April 15-16! The Red Bull Air Race World Championship comes to San Diego for the first time since 2009. The international pilots competing in the event will fly two laps for a total of 15 high-G gates above the Pacific Ocean.
It's a one-of-a-kind aerial acrobatic event with high speed at low altitudes that only master pilots dare attempt. Pilots maneuver around an aerial track, about 6 kilometers long, with inflatable air gates to mark the passages. There are straightaways, banking turns, and a specific vertical turning maneuver to be performed. Your flight to San Diego was nowhere near as exciting as this!
The planes in the race aren't much like the jet that brought you to San Diego, either. Planes in the Red Bull Air Race are light and robust, driven by propellers, and designed to be highly maneuverable to let them get around the course fast and sustain high-G turns. Their capabilities outdo modern fighter planes in how fast and vertical they fly!
You'll be able to see the event taking place along the San Diego coast. Hospitality tickets provide a comfortable setting for viewing the action and includes the chance to visit the hangars and meet the pilots. Other ticket options include general admission to the event. You can visit on pre-race qualifying days or the race day itself.
